What is EPF?
EPF (Employee Provident Fund) is a mandatory retirement savings scheme for salaried employees in India managed by EPFO. Both employee and employer contribute 12% of basic salary each month. The corpus earns interest and is paid out at retirement or resignation after 5 years.
What is the current EPF interest rate?
The EPF interest rate for FY 2023-24 is 8.25% per annum. The rate is declared annually by the EPFO and has historically ranged from 8.1% to 8.65%.
When can I withdraw my EPF?
You can withdraw the full EPF balance at retirement (age 58) or after 2 months of unemployment. Partial withdrawals are allowed for medical treatment, home purchase, marriage, or children's education.
Is EPF withdrawal taxable?
EPF withdrawal is completely tax-free if you have completed at least 5 years of continuous service. Withdrawal before 5 years is taxable as income, and TDS of 10% applies on amounts above ₹50,000.
